[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

Adolescent brain

It was believed that a human brain undergoes 90% of development in the first 3 to 4 years of life, however, new studies show that teenagers brain undergoes serious changes. For example, in this stage of life the neurons which are used will be hard wired and the ones that are not used will be lost. If your teen only sits on the couch and plays video games, than of course that's what he will most likely be doing for the rest of his adult life. Check this video out it's pretty cool.

History of LSD

IMAX DOCUMENTARY: THE HISTORY OF LSD PART 1 OF 4

The psychedelic drug LSD was first synthesized by the Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann in the Sandoz (now Novartis) laboratories in Basel, Switzerland in 1938. It wasn't until 5 years later on April 16th, 1943, that the psychedelic properties were discovered.

The Sandoz laboratory had undertaken a research program aimed at isolating the active constituents of medicinal plants so that they could be produced in the laboratory and later precisely dosed for accurate administration to patients. Dr. Hofmann eventually began researching the ergot fungus and alkaloids which could be derived from it. Ergot was traditionally used by midwives as an ecbolic, a medication used to induce childbirth, and early 20th century research indicated that the various compounds in ergot had other effects on the body as well, prompting further research.

After Dr. Hofmann succeeded in synthesizing ergobasine (which became the preeminent uterotonic), he began experiments with other molecules based around the central lysergic acid component shared by ergot alkalines. Lysergic acid diethylamide, the 25th lysergic acid derivative he synthesised (hence the name LSD-25) was developed initially as a probable analeptic, a circulatory and respiratory stimulant, based on its structural similarity to another known analeptic, nikethamide (nicotinic acid diethylamide). However, no extraordinary benefits of the compound were identified during animal tests (though laboratory notes briefly mention that the animals became "restless" under its effects), and its study was discontinued.

IMAX DOCUMENTARY: THE HISTORY OF LSD PART 2 OF 4

By the mid-sixties the backlash against the use of LSD and its perceived corrosive effects on the values of the Western middle class resulted in governmental action to restrict the availability of the drug by making any use of it illegal. Despite a history of positive results of judicious use under controlled circumstances, LSD was declared a "Schedule 1", even though this entails that the drug has a "high potential for abuse" and is without any "currently accepted medical use in treatment". LSD was removed from legal circulation. To support this action, the United States Drug Enforcement Agency claimed:

Although initial observations on the benefits of LSD were highly optimistic, empirical data developed subsequently proved less promising ... Its use in scientific research has been extensive and its use has been widespread. Although the study of LSD and other hallucinogens increased the awareness of how chemicals could affect the mind, its use in psychotherapy largely has been debunked. It produces no aphrodisiac effects, does not increase creativity, has no lasting positive effect in treating alcoholics or criminals, does not produce a 'model psychosis', and does not generate immediate personality change. However, drug studies have confirmed that the powerful hallucinogenic effects of this drug can produce profound adverse reactions, such as acute panic reactions, psychotic crises, and "flashbacks", especially in users ill-equipped to deal with such trauma.

They fail to mention that these "adverse reactions" are almost exclusively the result of a "psychedelic" dose, ~400μg or more (typical dose is around 50-150μg). The immediate environment and the psychological state of a person taking the substance can act as a catalyst for the mentioned negative experiences, as indeed with the positive.

IMAX DOCUMENTARY: THE HISTORY OF LSD PART 3 OF 4

LSD was evidently in limited recreational use in Australia in the early 1960s, but is believed to have been initially restricted to those with connections to the scientific and the medical communities. LSD overdose was suggested as a possible cause in the still-unsolved deaths of CSIRO scientists Dr Gilbert Bogle and his lover Dr Margaret Chandler, whose naked bodies were found beside the Lane Cove River in Sydney after a New Year's Eve party in on January 1, 1963.

Large quantities of LSD began to appear in Australia around 1967, and soon permated the music scene and youth culture in general, especially in the capital cities. The major source of supply during this period is believed to have been American servicemen visiting Australia (mainly Sydney) from Vietnam on 'rest and recreation' (R&R) leave, although the growing connections between American and Australian organized crime in the late 1960s may also have facilitated its importation. Recreational LSD use among young people was on a par with that in other countries in Australia by the early 1970s and continued until late in the decade. LSD is not believed to have been manufactured locally in a significant quantity (if at all) and most if not all supplies were sourced from overseas.

The availability of LSD had been drastically reduced by the late 1970s due to a combination of governmental controls and law enforcement. The supply of constituent chemicals (notably ergotamine tartrate) were placed under tight surveillance and government funding for LSD research was almost totally eliminated. These efforts were augmented by a series of major busts in England and Europe. One of the most famous was "Operation Julie" in Britain in 1978; it broke up one of the largest LSD manufacturing and distribution operations in the world at that time, headed by chemist Richard Kemp.

IMAX DOCUMENTARY: THE HISTORY OF LSD PART 4 OF 4

As a recreational drug, LSD has remained popular among certain segments of society. Traditionally, it has been popular with high school and college students and other young adults. LSD also has been integral to the lifestyle of many individuals who follow certain rock music bands, most notably the Grateful Dead. Older individuals, introduced to the hallucinogen in the 1960s, also still use LSD.

LSD made a comeback in the 1990s, especially through the acid house scene and raver subculture. However, the current average dosage unit is approximately 30 to 75 micrograms, a significant decrease from the 1960 average dosage unit of 200 to 300 micrograms. Lower doses may account for the relatively few LSD-related psychiatric emergencies during this period. LSD use and availability declined sharply following a raid of a large scale LSD lab in 2000 (see LSD in the United States).

Although retail-level distribution of LSD is known to sometimes take place at public events that feature music that appeals to users, such as certain kinds of concerts and all-night raves, users at the fringes of the distribution chain typically obtain small quantities of LSD from friends and acquaintances in relatively private exchanges.

Human body consists of more than 60,000 proteins responsible for different functions or makeup of your organs and tissues, but the most important protein of all is LAMENIN. Lamenin holds together every cell of your body like a glue. Without LAMENIN your body could not exist..

However the most interesting part is, that this protein has a shape of a cross. Here is the image of it...

New Russian leader Medvedev in China to boost alliance

BEIJING (AFP) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived in Beijing on Friday on his first trip abroad since taking office, hoping to boost energy and political ties with China amid tension between Moscow and Washington.

China is the first stop outside the former Soviet Union for Medvedev, who arrived in Beijing after visiting energy-rich Kazakhstan. He was due later Friday to meet with President Hu Jintao.

Ahead of his China trip, Medvedev, 42, who on May 7 succeeded president Vladimir Putin, emphasised the importance of Russia's growing neighbour.

"Our foreign policy should be reasonable, pragmatic and at the same time friendly and open. And we absolutely include China among our most important foreign policy partners," Medvedev said in an interview with Chinese journalists before his arrival.

Moscow and Beijing have pursued increasingly close ties, aligning their positions in international diplomacy and cooperating on defence within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a security group that includes four Central Asian states.

However, tensions remain between the two.

China and Russia are competing for Central Asia's oil and gas, which was exclusively Moscow's preserve in Soviet times.

There is also rivalry in the defence sphere, with some officials in Moscow reportedly worried about Beijing gaining too much access to Russian military secrets through increased defence sales to China.

Nevertheless, Medvedev said on Thursday while in Kazakhstan that the two countries were close to reaching agreement on building a pipeline from Siberia's oil fields to energy-hungry China.

"We currently have a basic agreement on this and today are at the concluding stage in talks between Rosneft and CNPC (Russia's and China's state oil companies)," Medvedev said in an interview posted on the Kremlin website.

Nonetheless as it battles what it views as Western expansionism on its western borders, Russia has sought to make friends with China.

China has supported Russia's steadfast opposition to US plans to build a missile defence shield in Central and Eastern Europe.

Both countries are veto-wielding permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, where they have been coordinating their positions on controversial issues such as Kosovan independence, which they both oppose.

Russia has also refused to join international criticism of China's human rights record in the run-up to this summer's Beijing Olympics.

Analysts saw symbolism in Medvedev's choice of heading first to China.

Since taking office, Medvedev has refrained from openly assailing the West in the style of his mentor and predecessor Putin, who remains highly influential in the prime minister's post.

"This is a signal that Russia has other friends, not only the West," said analyst Fyodor Lukyanov, editor of the journal Russia in Global Affairs.

As China's manufacturing sector booms, the country's exports to Russia have jumped 15-fold between 2002 and 2007.

Russian exports to China have also risen, mostly because of exports of oil.

Interesting facts about dragonfly

Lord of the Wings

By Mico Tatalovic / ScienceNOW Daily News / 14 May 2008

The dragonfly is an aerial acrobat. It's able to fly fast and slow, backward and forward, and even stay aloft while copulating. Where does the energy for all of these stunts come from? A new report in today's issue of the Journal of the Royal Society Interface suggests that the answer has to do with the insect's four independently moving wings.
Most flying insects use only a single pair of wings. Some, like butterflies and bees, use two pairs but synchronize their motion so that the effect is akin to having just two wings. Dragonflies and damselflies stand apart: Unusual musculature allows them to move each of their four wings independently. Computer modeling has shown that such out-of-phase flapping comes at a cost, however, reducing the amount of lift the insect is able to generate.

To see if these computer models hold up in the tangible world, James Usherwood, a biologist at the Royal Veterinary College in London, and Fritz-Olaf Lehmann, a biologist at the University of Ulm in Germany, built a robotic version of a dragonfly. They immersed the robot in mineral oil seeded with air bubbles to allow them to visualize the movement of the fluid around the flapping wings. Sensors at the base of the robot's wings recorded lift and drag forces, which allowed the team to calculate its aerodynamic efficiency.

Flapping four wings actually achieved lift with more efficiency than flapping just two wings. When the robot's hind wings flapped one-quarter of a wing beat ahead of the front wings, the team reports, the hind wings were able to capture the rush of air sent by the front wings and produce lift with 22% less power than two-winged insects require. Flapping in phase has benefits, too: When real dragonflies synchronize their wing beats, they are able to lift off and accelerate better than if they used only two wings or four out-of-sync wings, the authors say. Engineers may be able to apply these findings to building the next generation of flapping micro air vehicles, says Lehmann.

Jane Wang, a mathematician at Cornell University, says that the data agree with her own computer models of hovering dragonflies and that the new study elucidates why out-of-phase flapping is so efficient. Richard Bomphrey, a biologist at the University of Oxford in the U.K., cautions that scientists need to validate the findings in living insects. Still, he agrees that the research could ultimately aid engineers. The main difficulty facing the designers of micro air vehicles is that battery life limits how long the devices stay aloft, he says, so "any tips or tricks which enhance aerodynamic efficiency will be warmly welcomed."

Is Multilevel Marketing for me?

Everyone is involved in Multilevel Marketing, the only difference is that there are two groups of people:

1. Those who do it and get paid for it. $$$
2. Those who do it for FREE.

Example # 1

You go to a movie theater, buy a large popcorn and soda and enjoy the movie. When the movie is over, you are excited about it and recommend it to your friends and co-workers, you try to convince them that the movie is fantastic and they must absolutely see it. Your friends go to see the movie for themselves and happen to like it too, so they tell all their friends and co-workers who in turn to their friends. Before the month is over, there are crowds of people standing in line at the movie theater to see this movie. At the end of the moth the owner of the movie theater writes you a big fat check for advertising, right? WRONG - you do it for free.

Example # 2

You go to a restaurant. The service is first class, the food tastes great, you like the music, the whole experience is exceptional, it makes your weekend
worth talking about with your co-workers on Monday. Your friends call you after work and ask if you know of a good place to host a birthday party? Without hesitation, you recommend them this restaurant because it left such a good, positive impression in your memory. Your friends go to the restaurant and are impressed themselves about the level of service and the food, they tell their friends and relatives, friends and co-workers about it. At the end of the month the restaurant is crowded and it takes 20 minute to wait to get seated. The owner of the restaurant shakes your hand and says: "Thank you friend for brining all this business in, in order to show our appreciation for what you did, here is a check for $5,000.00, right? WRONG. You get nothing for your advertising and the money which should have been paid to you will probably go towards an add in yellow pages or local TV commercial.

Every day we recommend to someone a dentist, auto-service, hair cut salon, a pizza place or a GYM and we do it FREE of charge while you can actually get paid for doing the same thing with Multilevel Marketing Business. Multilevel Marketing is something everyone can be good at, because, we have been doing this all our lives, without realizing that we do it.

Iran: Parliament to discuss death penalty for converts who leave Islam

Tehran, 19 March (AKI) - In its first session since last week's general elections, the new Iranian parliament is expected to discuss a law that will condemn to death anyone who decides to leave the Muslim faith and convert to other religions.

The parliament, also known as the Majlis, will debate the new law which has been presented by the government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Under the proposed law, anyone who is born to Muslim parents and decides to convert to another faith, will face the death penalty.

Currently converts, particularly those who have decided to leave the Muslim faith for Evangelical churches, are arrested and then released after some years of detention.

The new legislation, which has caused concern in Iran and abroad, was proposed mainly because of fears of proselytising activities by Evangelical churches particularly through the use of satellite channels.

There has also been concern over fact that many young people in Iran have abandoned Islam because they're tired of the many restrictions imposed by the faith.

According to unofficial sources, in the past five years, one million Iranians, particularly young people and women, have abandoned Islam and joined Evangelical churches.

This phenomenon has surprised even the missionaries who carry out their activities in secret in Iran.

An Evangelical priest and former Muslim in Iran told Adnkronos International (AKI) that the conversions were "interesting, enthusiastic but very dangerous".

"The high number of conversions is the reason that the government has decided to make the repression of Christians official with this new law," said the priest on condition of anonymity.

"Often we get to know about a new community that has been formed, after a lot of time, given that the people gather in homes to pray and often with rituals that they invent without any real spiritual guide," he told AKI.

"We find ourselves facing what is more than a conversion to the Christian faith," he said. "It's a mass exodus from Islam."

Since the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran, at least eight Christians have been killed for their faith.

Seven of them were found stabbed to death after they were kidnapped while only one, Seyyed Hossein Soudmand was condemned to death.

How the TAX system works :)

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten is $100.
If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The fifth would pay $1.
The sixth would pay $3.
The seventh would pay $7.
The eighth would pay $12.
The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. “Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.” Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’ They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings) .
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. “I only got a dollar out of the $20,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,” but he got $10!” “Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!” “That’s true!!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!” “Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!” The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

IDF general dodged U.K. arrest

Last update - 23:16 19/02/2008

Major General (res.) Doron Almog. (Motti Kimche)

Report: IDF general dodged U.K. arrest as police feared shootout

By Haaretz Service

An Israel Defense Forces general escaped arrest for alleged war crimes at London's Heathrow airport in 2005 because U.K. police feared an arrest would spark a shootout with Israeli security officials, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Major General (res.) Doron Almog, planning to visit Jewish communities in the U.K., refused to deplane for two hours, after receiving a warning from the Israeli embassy of the imminent arrest. He then returned to Israel.

Palestinian groups had pressed U.K. authorities to arrest Almog over his alleged role in the destruction of more than 50 homes in the Gaza Strip in 2002, prompting a British judge to issue an arrest warrant.

Almog commanded the IDF southern command between 2000 and 2003.

Police waiting to arrest the Israeli general on the ground did not board the plane due to concerns that a clash with Israeli air marshals or armed personal security would erupt on board.

The arrest warrant against Almog was issued by a judge at the request of "Hickman and Rose" law office, representing the Palestinian group. The judge issued the warrant based on suspicion that Almog had violated the Geneva accords, which in Britain constitutes a crime.

The judge decided to issue a warrant based on one such violation - the destruction of a home in Rafah - in order to allow the police to question Almog over three other incidents: the killing of a nine-month pregnant woman in March 2003; the firing of a "Flechette" antipersonnel shells at three Gaza youths and killing them in December 2001; and dropping a missile on a house in Gaza in July 2002, killing a senior Hamas man along with 14 Palestinian civilians.

When Major General Almog returned to Israel, the British foreign secretary issued an apology for the incident. Hickman and Rose demanded an investigation.
